A Thing with Feathers

I used to read a lot of poetry. Both for pleasure and, being an English major in college, I studied poetry in multiple courses. Emily Dickinson has always been one of my favorite poets since I was a little girl.

I'd been looking at Lisa Leonard's jewelry for a while. I thought I wanted the "Be Still" necklace. Then I saw the new "Hope is the Thing" necklace and knew that was the one. I couldn't resist wearing a verse from one of my favorite poems written by one of my favorite poets around my neck.

So guess what I got for Christmas . . .

I love wearing it almost everyday! (Wishing I had a macro lens for this shot.)

Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune--without the words, And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard; And sore must be the storm That could abash the little bird That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land, And on the strangest sea; Yet, never, in extremity, It asked a crumb of me.
